Disney Wonder October, 2017

Mexican Riviera- 7 nights

Cabo San Lucas; Mazatlan; Puerto Vallarta; Mexico

Hi there cruisers!! If you’re thinking about taking a Disney Cruise but you are hesitant because “it’s for kids”, think again.

We took our first Disney Cruise in 2008, it was a short 3 night cruise to Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island). Ever since then, we’ve been hooked on Disney. You’re probably thinking that we are Disney fans, and you’d be right. However, you do NOT have to be a Disney fanatic to cruise with them. (Just ask the people we cruised with!) There is an entire part of the ship that is just for grown ups, and it’s really beautiful. Adult’s only pool, bar, etc. Very relaxing.

Side note: The quality of food was exceptional. Disney set the bar for us with regard to the food. It was amazing.

For this cruise, we booked a Deluxe Oceanview Verandah room, which is Disney’s way of saying a balcony room. We were in room 6128!

The cabin:

We were very impressed by the size of the stateroom. Inside the verandah stateroom, you get One queen size bed and a single convertible sofa! This room is built more like a suite in that you get a sofa and coffee table. There is plenty of storage under the bed, and the desk has multiple drawers for even more storage.

Another thing Disney does well is the bathroom. They have split bathrooms. One side has a shower and a sink, and the other is the toilet and another sink. The shower is a decent size too, no complaints for my chubby self or my linebacker-built husband.

The room: The space between the bed and the wall could be considered a little tight, you may have to crab walk sideways, but not a huge inconvenience.

The Bathroom: In the bathroom, the space the toilet exists in is also a little cramped. If you have hips like me (or shoulders like hubbs) it might be difficult. In the shower part of the bathroom, if you try and close the door while you’re at the sink, you might find it a squeeze.

The balcony: Now, I am a huge fan of balcony cabins, so I was a little disappointed in the size of the verandah. Side to side, it’s great, plenty of space. From door to ocean, it’s quite narrow. Not the biggest I’ve seen. Again, not a huge issue for us, but something to note.

Swimming with Dolphins!

Yes, it’s fat friendly!

This cruise stopped in 3 ports, and there was nothing that stood out about Cabo San Lucas or Mazatlan. We did beach excursions, so there were no weight limits that came into play.

We did end up booking the Aquaventuras water park for Puerto Vallarta ahead of time so we just had to find a way to get there. After we got off the ship, we found a local who was willing to drive us there for a small fee (I cannot remember exactly how much now) so we hopped in his van and he was the BEST tour guide! We always recommend talking to locals because they love to tell you stories about their town. Once we got to the park, we found out they had a dolphin encounter for an additional price, so naturally we had to do that. We were traveling with our best friends and their 2 kids, and none of us had ever swam with dolphins before!

We made our way to the back of the park where the encounter was, and this is where I saw the wall of life jackets. Of course, my anxiety kicked in immediately. As my fellow fluffies know, we have come to expect to be excluded from certain things. Well, everyone in the party went and retrieved their life jackets and my husband and I waited to be last. Much to our surprise, they had all sorts of sizes! I believe the largest one was a 4x. Now, could they be more inclusive? Absolutely. However, I can’t tell you what a relief it was to see.

The Dolphin encounter is a must do, if you can. The trainer we had was wonderful. Very sweet and accommodating. It was a wonderful experience that we’re very glad we participated in.

Well, that’s all for now cruisers. We hope to be vlogging soon and aim to bring you cruise ship tours, cabin tours, and all things friendly or unfriendly to us curvies.
